Your quote makes it sound as though there is no penalty for a Muslim killing a non-Muslim, or someone killing his children or grand-children. That is not true, as you can easily see by reading the source you are quoting from.
"Retaliation" is the death penalty for murder, an eye for an eye for injury. A little farther down in the same text it comes to "indemnity," the fine for killing (or injuring) someone, and specifies that the indemnity for killing a Christian or Jew is one third of the indemnity for killing a Muslim. Still further down we come to "expiation," the penance required for killing someone--freeing a slave or fasting for two months. There is no exception for non-Muslims.

"Is there a reason you can't have a print function. One that works. Middle East Quarterly is the standard as far as I'm concerned." That was what I put. Until I went to "Print Preview". You get a big Yaaahooo!
I like to ask Muslims about Jihad with this poser:
If Islam is the religion of peace, where in Abdullah bin Humaid's article on jihad can I find the equivalent of “Love Thy Neighbor”? “and good will toward men”? And explain its prominence, (and significance), in a book that's considered second only to the Koran; My Summarized Sahih Al-Bukhari. Also address “jihad” as it's defined in Reliance of the Traveller and answer the same question. Also compare Humaid's “jihad” and Emmet Fox' Sermon on the Mount and tell me which one best represents a spirit of Love and compassion. Larry A. Singleton

I think it is very critical to understand Islam but i consider it more effective if one look into other resources other than Muslim writer who supposed to be writing positively about his or her religion. I would recommend checking out another book with the same title The Muslim Next Door by Dr. Alfonse Javed www.themuslimnextdoor.info

Sir, you're avoiding my question: You stated that you agree that Muhammad ordered 'Asma bint Marwan to be killed. What is your source?
Dr. Ahmad himself writes that it was her "poetical pieces" that drew Muhammad's ire -- is Dr. Ahmad incorrect? Is Dr. Ahmad a "bigot"?
The myth that the Qur'an "revealed" the science of embryology is completely and thoroughly debunked here: http://www.derafsh-kaviyani.com/english/embryology.pdf
And if the Qur'an revealed the truth about astronomy and the universe, please explain how sura 18, verse 86 reveals the truth about the sun:
http://www.usc.edu/schools/college/crcc/engagement/resources/texts/muslim/quran/018.qmt.html#018.086
Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it set in a spring of murky water: Near it he found a People: We said: "O Zul-qarnain! (thou hast authority,) either to punish them, or to treat them with kindness."

It is very interesting that Ali-Karamali has simply said what most of the western Muslims have been saying since 9/11. However I have came across a new book with the same title but different author. The author was born and raised in Pakistan same culture as Ali-Karamali comes from, he was educated in Pakistan (Masters in Science and Masters in Business Administration) and in the US he started his education all over again from undergraduate degree-PhD in leadership from Liberty University, VA. themuslimnextdoor.info

I'm not Muslim and I've visited this center many times, they are the most nice and welcoming people ever known in my community in santa clara, I've visted many chruches, and I was never welcome as here, in churches they are good at begging for money in the name of Jesus. but visiting this place was a wonderful experience.
Regarding this article you have the right criticize these books nad the writers, but you don't have the right to linking these books to the whole muslim community, itis an evil act because these books are even available in AMAZON http://www.amazon.com/Minhaj-Al-Muslim-Way-Muslim-Vols/dp/1591440408/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325357864&sr=8-1-fkmr0

then we need to attack Amazon for hosting these books, you are an idiot and you are a jerk and people like you make our society like a cancer.

Really?
Amazon sells over 10 million books and was founded with the mission of being the world's largest bookstore. See http://207-171-168-158.amazon.com/kdpforums/thread.jspa?threadID=22021&tstart=-1 Obviously, you can find all perspectives on Amazon.
The MCA online bookstore, in its own words, sells "authentic Islamic books" (see http://www.mcabayarea.org/bookstore/). This store offers Reliance as one of 8 books on its English books list. Minhaj is one of 12 books on their main Books page. And Man-made Laws vs. Shariah is one of 5 books in the Fiqh and Aqeedah section. Differing views are not offered. If Minhaj and Reliance are getting Sharia wrong, where is the book on Sharia that gets it right? If, as you imply, the MCA does not approve or endorse Reliance or Minhaj, why are they presenting them as "authentic Islamic books" within a tiny, monolithic collection?
And now some questions for you: as a purported non-Muslim, what do you think about the message delivered by Minhaj and Reliance, especially vis a vis non-Muslims? Are you offended by it? What do you think of Man-Made Laws vs. Shariah, which argues that any Muslim supporting any legal system other than Sharia is a disbeliever? Since you're such a frequent visitor to the MCA -- one wonders why -- perhaps you could ask them (a) whether it's an obligation for Muslims to work toward bringing Sharia rule to the world, and (b) whether they could recommend a good book for you about Sharia -- since obviously Minhaj and Reliance must be misunderstandings of Islam.
I also notice you happened to ignore the speakers in the videos that the MCA has chosen to feature, including Holocaust deniers, bin Laden praisers, and others who have called for Islam to dominate in America. Let me guess: you'd say it's unfair to criticize the MCA for those as well, because, perhaps, YouTube has videos too?

Thank you Kamala!
This past November, I leafleted the appearance of Wajahat Ali, and Reza Aslan at the SJ Tech Museum. The Tech is currently running the "Islamic Science Rediscovered" exhibit, and the "community partners" include MCA, as well as, CAIR, MAS, and Zaid Shakir.
I made a video about my preparation for the leafleting. You can see it here. http://vladtepesblog.com/?p=41862
If I had known about this piece sooner I would have included it in the video.
Your work is very much appreciated.
Thank you again.

"The Tech is currently running the "Islamic Science Rediscovered" exhibit ..." Larry: "Islamic Science"? How can Islam and Science co-exist when Islam explicitly rejects causality (cause and effect) as limiting the freedom of Allah (i.e. the required belief that EVERYTHING happens because and _only_ because of the Will of Allah, who cannot be constrained and who is unfathomable by Man), and causality (especially in the reproducibility of experiments and testability and falsifiability of hypotheses) is one of the absolutely indispensable underpinnings of Science?

First of all, western liberals are trying more and more ways to attack and alienate Islam and Muslims so you cannot say at a ll they are "welcoming" radical Islam. And what constitutes "radical" anyway? The fact that I *chose* to obey the teachings and want to pray 5 times a day?
A response to "Anonymous": However, when they (western liberals- which can also be Muslims btw) are open-minded, they realize that Islam and Muslims live a very logical way of life- a natural state of listening or opening their minds to God's commandments.
FYI, no one threatened the christmas trees in schools. Everyone actually finds them cute and pretty.

If it's so 'hateful' why not refute the 'lies', a comment i will also address to the first commentator on this post - @anon14 2011, 8:56 you can name call, or you can refute. Its understandable that muslims will lie/avoid the truth about this, but why do western liberals? Why do they seem more ready to welcome radical islam and seemingly more threatened by Christmas trees in schools?

Hi, Kamala I think you didn't understand what I wrote about Ibn Ishaq, even though my analogy was very simple, here is another one to make it easier for! Ibn Ishaq gathered every story that he heard about the Prophet (PBUH) like when today, I would go and buy every publication on a news-stand and save it for a next generation. By that I reserved the NY times the Washington post but with them the tabloids as well! Mr. Spencer looks only for the tabloids and quotes the most absurd of aliens abductions and Elvis returning to life stories as "the truth about Muhammad" ! I hope you got it. Al Bukhary, and the six Hadeeth references are the most credible sources of the Biography of the Prophet (PBUH), and definitely not Ibn Ishaq. Did you overlook Ibn Ishaq's own quote " Only Allah knows which one (his narrations) is correct" or was it easier to ask Karen!? I brought over a half a dozen scientific reasons in the matter of Ayesha that proves that she was much older than what she thought, which obviously you didn't like, yet I do not know how can I explain it any better when we declare to the world that our reference to what is right or wrong is God's last prophet! It is not you or me or anyone else. You are definitely free to disagree, but what is really amazing is that 1.6 billion people should ignore the reference of the prophet and consider what Spencer may think! I am eager to hear you input about the real matters of the book; for example is the Quran the word of God addressed in chapter 4, or the mutilation of the verses and omitting entire verses from the quotes Mr. Spencer gives his readers, etc. Kamala, do you honestly think that Spencer told the truth about Muhammad? I want to hear this one.

If I quote from six Hadiths, what difference it makes? Because the ones revealing the true character of Mohammad are not authentic one, you say. You take away Ibn Ishaq, you will not even have proof that Mohammad existed. Either way, Ibn Ishaq gives isnad (chain of narrations.). If we cite your sharia law, you say it is not proper interpretation. So, for 1400 years, Muslims do not know their real faith; very funny.
